Neumann Advances to Atlantic East Championship, Rullo Picks Up 150th Career Win

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball team picked up a 76-61 win over Centenary University on Wednesday evening in Atlantic East Conference semifinal action to advance to the Conference Championship on Saturday.

 

The win also marks the 150th win for head coach Jim Rullo and the 20th win on the season for the Knights. Under Coach Rullo, the Knights have advanced to the conference championship six times, winning two titles. It is also the fifth season the team has hit the 20-win mark.

 

Tony James and Jalen Vaughns each netter 20 points in the game to lead Neumann. Vaughns also grabbed 14 rebounds for another double-double while handing out six assists and notching four blocks. TJ Lewis netted 19 points. Ryan Starr added eight points and eight assists.

 

Starr opened the scoring with a three-pointer and the Knights never trailed. Neumann built a 12-2 advantage over the first four-plus minutes. Each team went on small runs throughout the half, but the Knights were able to hold the lead and took a 39-27 lead into halftime.

 

The Cyclones pulled as close as eight a few times in the second half. The final time coming with 7:36 on the clock and a 58-50 score. A jumper by James put the Knights back up by double-digits, which they would hold for most of the rest of regulation. Two free throws by Lewis and a layup by James sealed the 76-61 win for Neumann.

 

Neumann (20-7) will head to Marymount on Saturday for the 2022 Atlantic East Conference Championship.
