PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Senior Ryan Gentile made it rain, junior Daniel Cook became the 27th player in program history to score 1,000 career points and the St. John Fisher College men's basketball team scored its most points in a game since 1997 as the Cardinals closed out the regular season in a big way following a 114-78 win over Elmira College on Tuesday night inside Manning and Napier Varsity Gymnasium on Bobby Wanzer Court.  With the victory, the Cardinals improved to 19-6 and 13-3 in the Empire 8 standings while the Soaring Eagles closed out the night at 5-18 on the year and 3-11 against league opponents.

Gentile was on fire all game for the Cardinals as the guard broke Robaire Johnson's record for 3-pointers in a game nearly 23 years to the day it was set after draining 10 shots from the behind the arc.  Gentile finished with a career-high 32 points on 10-of-13 shooting while Cook finished with his 17th double of the year after netting 22 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.  The Honeoye Falls native, who has played in 38 career games at Fisher now owns 1,000 career points after scoring 238 during his freshman season at Hobart College.

In all, the Cardinals had four players finish in double figures with Brendan Trapper adding 14 points, three assists and two rebounds while Connor Williams scored 10 points paired with a career-high eight rebounds and six assists.  Connor Recore added eight points off the bench while Matt Lettko and Jack Foley each finished with seven points in the win.

It didn't take long for Fisher to find a rhythm on the offensive end of the floor as the Cardinals buried four 3-pointers over the first five minutes of play to open up a 21-9 edge.

From there, the team went inside with Williams scoring four points on put-backs as part of a 7-2 run that pushed the home team's advantage to 15 with 11:28 still showing on the clock.

Holding a 28-13 edge, the Cardinals put together another big run, this time scoring 15 of the game's next 20 points including eight combined points from Cook and Recore to push the lead to 25 with under five minutes to play before the break.
As the first half ticked down, both teams traded points down the stretch with the Cardinals holding a 55-31 cushion at the horn.

Coming out of the break, Sean Williams dished out one of his five assists after finding Gentile on the wing to spark a 7-2 run to open the second half.

Leading 69-39, the Cardinals went to the free throw line where Cook drained both attempts to make history at the 14:53 mark of the frame.  From there, Fisher worked the perimeter with Gentile making four consecutive 3-pointers including the record-breaker as part of a 14-5 burst that made it 87-47 with under 10 minutes to play.

With the game well in hand, Fisher's lead would slip to 31 late in the contest before the Cardinals scored seven of the game's final nine points to finish with a season-high 114 points – the team's highest total since defeating Lake Erie College, 116-87, to begin the 1997-98 season.

As a team, Fisher was 42-of-66 from the floor including 14 makes from downtown.  Fisher held a 41-24 advantage on the glass and forced Elmira in to 15 turnovers.

Fisher will enjoy a 9-day break before returning to action in the semifinal round of the Empire 8 Championship on Friday, February 25th.  The Cardinals' opponent as well as the site of competition have yet to shake out and will be decided at the conclusion of the weekend.
