HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Sophomore Davidson Hubbard (Charlotte, NC) posted game-highs of 16 points and 12 rebounds for his second career double-double to lead Hampden-Sydney College to a 70-64 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) basketball home win past Roanoke College on Saturday afternoon in S. Douglas Fleet Gymnasium. The Tigers led 31-24 at halftime, but fell behind 62-56 with 4:17 remaining, before outscoring the Maroons 14-2 over the final 4:02. Sophomore Adam Brazil (Davidson, NC) and junior Ryan Clements (Conyers, GA) added 13 points and 12 points, respectively, for the host Tigers, who improved to 12-8 overall, 7-6 in the ODAC. Kasey Draper scored a team-high 15 points for RC, now 16-7 overall, 8-6 in the ODAC.

"Very physical game today," said third-year head coach Caleb Kimbrough. "The guys had a few great days of practice prior to today's game and showed a lot of discipline throughout the game. What a great way to honor our two seniors."

H-SC opened the contest with a three-point field goal from Brazil and took an early 8-3 advantage at 16:55 after a three-pointer by fifth-year Jake Hahn (Ruckersville) and a layup from Clements. Another three-pointer, this time by Hubbard, had the Tigers ahead 15-10 with 12:43 on the clock. RC closed to within 15-14 at 10:26, but the Garnet & Grey used a quick 11-1 run to lead 26-15 at 5:32—getting three-pointers from sophomore Alex Elliott (Marietta, GA), freshman Ayman McGowan (Memphis, TN) and Hubbard, along with a basket inside from senior Jack Wyatt (Richmond). Another triple from McGowan made it 29-18 with 4:16 left in the half, before the Maroons closed to within 31-24 at the intermission.

H-SC maintained the margin to begin the second half, and led 44-37 at 13:10 after McGowan connected on his third three-pointer off the bench. RC rallied back and took its first lead of the day at 49-48 with 8:53 remaining, and the Maroons pushed their advantage to 62-56 at 4:17. The Tigers, however, answered back emphatically with 14-straight points to lead 70-62 toward the final six-point margin of victory. Hubbard started the late comeback with a jumper at 4:02, followed by a basket from sophomore Josiah Hardy (Ashburn), and the go-ahead three-pointer by Brazil with 2:39 to play to make it 63-62. Hubbard added another basket at 1:47, Brazil added two free throws with 38-seconds remaining, Hubbard made two free throws with 24-seconds left and Clements added a free throw with 13-seconds remaining before a last-seconds score by the visitors.

Hubbard led H-SC with his game-high double-double of 16 points and 12 rebounds—his second career double-double. Brazil finished with his 13 points, including 3-5 three-pointers for the Tigers. Clements contributed his 12 points, while Hahn and McGowan each had nine points—a career-high for McGowan, who made 3-4 three-pointers off the bench. Hardy had six points, five rebounds and three assists. H-SC shot 43% (23-53) from the field, including 42% (11-26) on three-pointers, and 87% (13-15) at the free throw line.

Draper led RC with his team-high 15 points, adding seven rebounds and a game-high seven assists. Zach Rosenthal had 12 points off the bench, including 4-4 three-pointers, for the Maroons. Justin Kuthan finished with 10 points, off the bench, as well. RC shot 45% (24-53) from the field, including 50% (11-2) on three-pointers, and 46% (5-11) at the line.

The Tigers avenged a 70-64 road setback at RC last month on January 22 in Salem. It stopped a seven-game losing streak to the Maroons, as well, dating back to the 2015-16 season.
