Lynchburg, Va. -- University of Lynchburg men's basketball righted the ship with a statement 82-75 win over Washington and Lee Saturday afternoon.

Isräel Lockamy started hot from downtown and sank two 3s in the opening minutes. Tharon Suggs also knocked down a pair of 3-pointers as the Hornets led 16-14 with 14:14 to go in the first.

The lead changed hands 14 times in the opening half including when Elijah Davis splashed a 3-pointer at the 2:12 mark. The Hornets shot 6-12 (50%) from deep in the first 20.

Despite their hot shooting and 10 points from Lockamy, the Hornets went into halftime trailing 38-37.

Lynchburg has trailed at halftime of four of the previous five games. However, the Hornets have two comeback wins in those contests and are no strangers to overcoming adversity.

Playing without preseason All-American honorable mention T.C. Thacker and several other key players, Miles Taylor and Landon Sutton have stepped up into starting roles.

Taylor tied the game up 3:11 into the second half and capped off a seven-point run for Lynchburg. He finished with six points, an assist, and a block while Sutton had two assists and a steal.

With 12:18 remaining, the Generals built their largest lead, 58-50, after a layup from Robert DiSibio. He finished as W&L's leading scorer.

Lynchburg responded with an 8-2 run emphasized by Suggs' fourth 3-pointer of the game. He did not miss all night from deep and ended the contest with 19 points.

Trey Pittman splashed a 3 off an assist from Elijah Davis and put his team ahead again by one point with 7:07 to play. The Hornets improved upon their first half shooting from deep and went 6-9 (66.7%) from downtown and ended the game with a 57.1% (12-21) mark beyond the arc. Lynchburg enjoyed its third game shooting 50% or better from 3 all season.

However, Lynchburg and W&L wrestled over the lead for 1:53 until Lockamy gave the Hornets the lead for good.

The graduate student from Wake Forest, N.C. poured in a career-high 24 points with three boards and two steals.

Elijah Davis also rewrote his career-best point total in his freshman year by scoring eight points on 2-4 shooting from deep. The Chapel Hill-freshman also drained two free throws to put the finishing touches on the win.

The Hornets swept the season series against W&L for the first time since the 2015-16 season. Lynchburg also only had seven turnovers while stealing the ball eight times and forcing 16 turnovers overall.
