The Basics

• The Short Story: Senior Tom Quarry posted his first career double-double to lead the 19^th-ranked Johns Hopkins men's basketball team to a 71-47 win over Haverford in the 20^th annual Wall-O'Mahony Game.
 
How it Happened
• It was a low-scoring affair early and Haverford led 5-4 after a Ryan Trotter three-pointer with 13:38 to go in the half. Sophomore Will Sykes answered on the other end with a bucket in the paint to grab the lead for Hopkins. That bucket sparked an 11-0 run as the Blue Jays quickly turned a one-point deficit into a 10-point lead. Freshman John Windley capped the run with a triple to stake JHU to a 15-5 lead.
• The Fords ended the run with a 5-2 spurt to trim the deficit to seven with 6:14 on the clock. The teams traded scores over a four-minute stretch and the Blue Jays led 25-16. Back-to-back buckets by Sykes and junior Lincoln Yeutter pushed the Blue Jays' lead to 13 with 1:40 to go. Harry Johnson drained a turnaround jumper and then a three-pointer to make it an eight-point game at the half.
• Nick Krekorian then opened the second-half with a bucket in the paint and just like that it was a five-point game. Junior Sidney Thybulle responded with back-to-back layups to put Hopkins up 33-24. That ignited a 13-0 run that saw the lead grow to 18, punctuated by threes from senior Braeden Johnson and Quarry. Jackson Ryan halted the run with a driving layup at 15:28. Yeutter and graduate student Conner Delaney then sandwiched triples around a Nate Torres bucket, followed by a Delaney layup and the Blue Jays led 50-28.
• The teams went back to swapping scores as the lead vacillated between 18 and 22 points over the next eight minutes. Leading 60-41 with 5:28 to play, junior Carson James scored on a driving layup, followed by a Quarry three-pointer, and then one of his own, to give Hopkins its largest lead at 27. Luke Phillips ended the spurt with a bucket from downtown and then Brandon Banadda hit a layup to cut it to 22. Junior Rohan Prakash answered with a triple and Banadda would close out the scoring with a free throw in the waning seconds.
 
What it Means
• Hopkins improves to 81-38 all-time against Haverford and has won nine straight over the Fords.
• The Blue Jays are now 16-4 in the Wall-O'Mahony Game and has won the last eight. Today's game was played in honor of 1984 alumni Glen Wall and Matt O'Mahony, who lost their lives in the September 11 attack on the World Trade Center.
 
Inside the Box Score
• Quarry earned Wall-O'Mahony Game MVP honors with game-highs of 14 points and 10 rebounds. He also added a pair of steals.
• James finished with 11 points and a pair of assists, while Thybulle added 10 points and five boards. Sykes had a career day with 10 points, eight boards, two blocks and two steals.
• Delaney handed out a game-high seven assists, to go with eight points, and also had two steals. He passed Wall on both the career assist and steal lists and now ranks second (374) in JHU history in assists and is fourth in steals (133).
• Torres was named the Fords' Wall-O'Mahony MVP with 10 points and a team-best six rebounds. He was the only Haverford player to finish in double figures. Banadda had four steals to go with four points and five rebounds.
• Hopkins dominated on the glass, outrebounding Haverford, 48-31. It is the ninth time this season the Blue Jays have outrebounded their opponent by 10 or more.
