The Case Western Reserve University men's basketball team completed a season sweep of their series with the University of Chicago, defeating the Maroons 93-77 at the Ratner Center in Chicago, Illinois on Friday night.

The Spartans have now won four-straight games to improve to 16-2 overall on the season and remained in sole possession of second place in the University Athletic Association with a 6-1 conference record. Chicago fell to 6-12 overall with a 1-6 UAA mark.

Junior forward Cole Frilling recorded his second double-double of the season, leading all players with 27 points and 10 rebounds. He shot nine-of-17 overall in the game and connected on a season-high five three pointers on seven attempts. Graduate student guard Mitch Prendergast matched his season-high with 26 points, hitting 10-of-16 shots from the floor, including four-of-six from behind the three-point line, and adding four assists with a pair of steals. Senior guard Robert Faller shot seven-of-11 for 18 points, and graduate student guard Griffin Kornaker filled up the box score with eight points, 10 assists, six rebounds and a program-record matching six steals.

The Spartans overcame a hot-shooting Chicago team that made eight of their 16 three-point attempts in the first half, and 13-of-29 long range tries overall for the day. CWRU countered by shooting 50.0% (11-of-22) from behind the three-point line and made 54.7% (35-of-64) of their shots overall in the game, while connecting on 12-of-15 free throw attempts.

CWRU grabbed a 6-5 lead on a layup by Kornaker at the 18:02 mark, and remained in front for the majority of the first half, leading by as many as 10 points after a three pointer by Frilling put the Spartans in front 37-27 with 5:57 to go in the period. However, the Maroons answered with a 16-4 run, taking a 43-41 lead with under a minute left in the half, before a layup by Faller on the Spartans' final possession of the frame tied the game at 43-43 heading into the break.

Chicago hit a basket on its opening possession of the second half to take the lead back, but a pair of free throws by Faller and a three by Frilling put CWRU back in front 48-45 with 18:58 to play in the game. The Spartans never trailed again in the game and the team's 16-point lead to close out the contest was their largest of the game. Prendergast helped close out the win, scoring eight points by himself in the final 1:39 to lock down the victory.

The Spartans forced 16 turnovers in the game, and outscored Chicago 24-5 off turnovers on Friday night. CWRU also held a 17-2 advantage in fast break points and a 44-24 edge in points in the paint.

With Friday night's win, the Spartans are now one win away from matching the program record for victories in a season, set by the 1998-99 squad, which finished 17-9 overall. The team's six conference wins match the most by a CWRU team in a 14-game UAA schedule.

Case Western Reserve will be back in action on Sunday afternoon, wrapping up their brief road trip against ninth-ranked Washington University (Mo.) at 1:00 p.m. ET in St. Louis, Missouri.
