• The Short Story: The Johns Hopkins men's basketball team used a 25-5 run over the final nine minutes of the first half to take control en route to an 81-40 win at McDaniel Wednesday night.
How it Happened
• With the game tied at 14 and 9:15 to play in the half, senior Tom Quarry hit three shots from the charity stripe to spark that 25-5 run. Five Blue Jays scored during the run, which ate up the final 9:15 of the half. Graduate student Conner Delaney capped the run with nine straight points to send Hopkins into the break with a 39-19 lead.
• McDaniel opened the second half with a Mike Wallace jumper, but Hopkins answered with 13 straight points from Delaney, Quarry and senior Chid Nnake to push its lead to 31. Wallace put an end to the run with a three-point play at the 13:09 mark to jump start an 11-2 run that saw the Green Terror trim the deficit to 22.
• As it turned out, that's as close as McDaniel would get. Delaney drained a pair of free throws with 10:28 to play to kick-start a methodical 27-8 run that spanned nearly eight minutes. Seven Blue Jays scored during the run, which was fueled by seven three-pointers, and staked Hopkins to an 81-40 lead at the 2:17-mark.
• This was a close one early as the lead changed hands six times with three ties. McDaniel jumped out to a 7-3 lead after five straight points by Wallace. Delaney and Nnake sandwiched buckets around a Carter Truby free throw and it was an 8-8 game with 13:44 to play in the half. The teams traded scores over the next four and a half minutes and it was 14-14. Quarry gave the Blue Jays the lead for good with his three free throws at the 9:15-mark.

• The 40 points are the fewest Hopkins has allowed since a 52-39 win over La Roche on March 2, 2018.
