Wolves Power Through for Second Straight Home Win

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. — For the second straight home game for the Wolves, the Keuka College Men's Basketball team scored in the final minute to win the game. Keuka College defeated Alfred University 74-72 on Wednesday night.

Devin Milton (Opelousas, La. / Beau Chene) led Keuka College (2-13, 2-5 Empire 8) with a game-high 24 points. Mason VanDeMortel (Newark, N.Y. / Newark) had 17 points and DJ Billings (Rochester, N.Y. / Greece Odyssey) added 12 in the win.

Keuka College 74 vs. Alfred University 72

Mason VanDeMortel won the tip for Keuka to Nana Oteng (Queens, N.Y. / Martin Luther). Oteng fired it up the wing to DJ Billings for a three to open the game in just four seconds. Billings hit a second three, and then Mason VanDeMortel followed an Alfred three with two of his own as the Wolves were out to a 12-3 lead three minutes in. Midway through the first, Daniel Obunse (Queens, N.Y. / Flushing) drained a three as Keuka went 7-14 from deep in the opening ten minutes to build a 25-15 advantage. A drive by Keion Brooks (Titusville, Fla. / Home-Schooled) followed by a steal and basket by Will Tehan (Victor, N.Y. / Victor) capped a 9-0 run as Keuka double-up Alfred 34-17 with seven minutes left in the first. The Saxons would not go away. A 13-point run by Alfred nearly erased Keuka's lead as Keuka was held off the board for nearly the remainder of the half. The lone Wolves basket came as Devin Milton drained a three at the buzzer to give the Wolves a 37-30 halftime lead.

The two teams traded baskets early, but seven straight by the Wolves built their advantage to 47-35. The lead would continue to grow as a pair of cuts and layups by Devin Milton gave Keuka a 53-39 edge, but Alfred responded with a 13-2 stretch of their own to make it a one-possession game. A Saxon three would tie the game at 55-55 with 11:21 left to play. Alfred would later take the lead from the free-throw line, but the Wolves answered right back with two free throws for their own lead. Keuka had another run in them, scoring nine straight to make it 71-60 with 3:20 left. Alfred would hold the Wolves off the board, scoring 12 straight, capped by a layup with 45 seconds left for the Saxon lead. Next trip up the floor, Mason VanDeMortel found a cutting Will Tehan for a layup to give Keuka a lead with 30 seconds left. A missed three by Alfred was collected by Devin Milton, who was fouled. Not in the bonus, the Wolves inbounded again and DJ Billings was fouled with five seconds left. The senior went 1-2 from the line. The Saxons raced up the court, but their off-balanced three at the buzzer was off as the Wolves earned their second Empire 8 win of the season, defeating Alfred University 74-72.
