HUNTINGDON, PA (January 31, 2022) -- Junior forward Dominic Dunn scored 25 points on 8-of-15 shooting, nailing six three-pointers to lead the Susquehanna University men's basketball team to its fifth-straight win with a 81-38 victory over Juniata College in Landmark Conference action Monday.
The 25 points for Dunn were the second-most by the junior of the season, bested by just the 30 points on December 4 at Elizabethtown College. The six three-point makes tied for a career-high for Dunn, as he helped Susquehanna (15-4, 7-1 Landmark) move into a tie for first-place in the Landmark Conference. SU will take on Drew University Wednesday at home in a match-up of the two top-spot squads.
Susquehanna has now won three straight games against the Eagles (11-7, 4-3 Landmark), and nine of the last 11 against Juniata. Monday's margin of victory of 43 over Juniata was the largest in program history, and was the largest Landmark Conference victory since SU knocked off Goucher 122-76 back on February 18, 2015.
The River Hawks led for 39:55 of the game's 40 minutes, as Jack Van Syckle shoveling in a layup on the game's first possession to start a 14-2 run for the visitors to open the contest. Later in the first half, Susquehanna posted a 9-1 run to take a 21-point edge after a jumper from Dunn.
With 2:00 minutes to play, the River Hawks finished the half on a 7-0 run capped by a triple by Dunn to make it 44-18 at the break. Dunn posted 17 points in the first stanza, chalking up five rebounds on 5-of-10 shooting in the half. Van Syckle also added 10 points and six rebounds in the opening 20 minutes.
The River Hawks continued to roll in the second half, leading by as much as 44 points in chalking up the conference victory. The River Hawks' pressure was a big story Monday, as Juniata's 28 turnovers resulting in a 30-4 points off turnovers advantage for SU. The 28 turnovers caused by Susquehanna was the second-most this year.
Senior Danny Frauenheim finished with nine points and six assists, while Yurasits finished with 10 points as well. Junior Quincy Haughton hit both of his shots for six points, and first-year Cooper Haberern continued his strong shooting of late with six points on 2-of-2 shooting from behind the three-point arc.
First-year Steven Ressler came off the bench to hit all three shots he took on the night for four points, and fellow newcomer Isaiah Oluajayi had four points including a dunk to finish the River Hawk scoring on the night. Jay Martin led the River Hawks with six steals. SU shot 28-of-64 (43.8 percent) on the night, making 13 of the 31 attempts (41.9 percent).
Juniata was led by the nine points from Evan Eisenhart, while John Kelly and Michael Montecalvo eac had five points for the Eagles. Susquehanna held Juniata to 31.8 percent shooting on field goals, a season-low for a River Hawk opponent. The 38 points allowed are the fewest allowed by a Frank Marcinek team, and the fewest for a SU team since defeating Castleton State 53-29 back in November of 1979.
