No. 7 Men's Yeshiva Earns Skyline Road Victory Over Mount Saint Mary

NEWBURGH, N.Y. – The nationally ranked No. 7 Yeshiva University men's basketball team returned from its break by earning a convincing Skyline road victory over Mount Saint Mary College, 89-49, at the Kaplan Center on Wednesday evening. Yeshiva is now a perfect 8-0 in conference play and bumps its overall record to 15-1.

It was another outstanding game for senior Ryan Turell, who led all players with 28 points on 10-for-17 shooting from the field. Graduate student Gabriel Leifer generated 15 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and blocked a pair of shots. Fellow graduate student Jordan Armstrong had a monster game defensively with six blocks, while bringing down four boards. Junior Ofek Reef tallied 15 points. Senior Eitan Halpert produced 12 points, dished out three assists, and forced two steals.

For the evening, Yeshiva shot a scorching 62.3% from the field, while the Macs' defense held the Knights (5-10, 3-4 Skyline) to just 29.6% shooting overall.

The Maccabees got off to a slow start, as the Knights jumped out to an early 5-0 advantage. However, Yeshiva quickly tilted momentum into its favor by scoring eight unanswered points, which concluded with a pair of free throws from Turell, to take the lead for good at 8-5.

The key stretch during the opening period was a 21-3 run by the Maccabees, capped off by graduate student Ethan Lasko forcing a steal and then converting a fast break layup, that padded their lead to 31-12 with 2:38 left to play before the intermission. YU's defense held Mount Saint Mary to without a field goal for 8:22 during the game-altering blitz. Yeshiva took a 39-16 benefit into halftime.

The Maccabees inflated its lead throughout the majority of the second half on their way to their eighth Skyline victory in as many conference contests.

For Yeshiva, junior Matan Zucker had a productive game with eight points, three rebounds, and two steals. Lasko contributed with four points, four boards, three assists, and just as many steals. Sophomore Oren Betesh brought down three rebounds, while classmate Adi Markovich delivered two assists. Junior Zachary Muller netted two points and forced a pair of steals, while seniors Max Leibowitz and Aryeh Halpert each scored two points.

Rookie Jayden Figueroa led Mount Saint Mary in scoring with 12 points.

Yeshiva will head to Throggs Neck, N.Y., on Saturday evening, for a Skyline contest against Maritime College. Tipoff at Riesenberg Gymnasium is scheduled for 8:30 p.m.
