ITHACA, N.Y. - Four student-athletes reached double digits in points and the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's basketball team used a 14-4 second half run to earn a 66-61 victory at Liberty League foe Ithaca College. The Engineers improve to 13-2 overall and a conference-best 7-1, while the Bombers drop to 10-6 and 6-3.
Down 48-43 just past the halfway point of the second half, RPI outscored Ithaca 14-4 over the next seven minutes for a 57-52 lead with 2:39 remaining. In the stretch, senior Mason Memmelaar had eight of his game-high 15 points. Jonny Angbazo had a pair of buckets and Dom Black also scored. The Engineers held the lead from that point on, building it to as many as eight points on three separate occasions. Black had five points from the free throw line to help seal the victory.
Memmelaar, who was coming off a 27-point performance on Sunday, made 5 of 9 shots from the floor and 5 of 9 from the free throw line for his 15 points. He also had eight rebounds, also a game-high, with two assists and four steals. Sophomore Avery Eugster had 11 points and seven rebounds off the bench and Patrick Mahoney tallied 11 points in 17 minutes. Black finished with 10 points, six rebounds and three assists.
Ithaca was led by Jack Stern's 14 points and Skylar Sinon's 13 points and six rebounds.
