The Baruch College Bearcats defeated the Lightning of Lehman College, 71-67, in an exciting and tightly contested CUNYAC contest on Wednesday night in the ARC Arena.
The two teams each owned brief leads throughout the evening, but the game was decided in the final 1:28 with the scored tied at 63.
Emil Purisic, who recorded his fifth straight double-double with 19 points and 13 rebounds, was fouled and connected on a pair of free throws for a 65-63 lead with 1:08 left.
Lehman's Isiah Geathers then hit one of two free throws to cut the score to 65-64.
Both teams each had possession but neither scored until Jehmehl Fair was fouled with nine seconds left. He hit both free throws for 67-64 score.
Both teams fouled again and both made a pair of free throws for a 69-66 score with the Bearcats still leading with four seconds left.
Lehman's Gian Batista could then only connect on one of two free throws (69-67) and that enabled the Bearcats to close out the game. Adnan Bajrami was fouled and he hit connected on his two free throws with two seconds left to seal the win to stay undefeated in CUNYAC at 4-0.
Fair finished a solid evening with 20 points and eight rebounds. Bajrami also recorded four steals.
Geathers led the Lightning with 25 points and 12 rebounds.
