The Case Western Reserve University men's basketball jumped out to an early lead and never looked back in a dominating 98-71 win at University Athletic Association rival New York University in Brooklyn, New York on Friday night.

The victory was a statement win for the CWRU, which controlled the pace from start-to-finish against the Violets, who entered the game with just one loss on the campaign. The Spartans now stand alone at the top of the UAA standings with a 2-0 conference record, and are 12-1 overall, with a program-best 12-game winning streak. NYU dropped to 9-2 with the loss.

The 98 points were the most by CWRU in a UAA game since the team scored 101 against Emory during the 1996-97 campaign. The Spartans knocked down 15 threes in the game, the team's second-highest total of the season, and shot 46.9% (15-of-32) overall from behind the three-point line, with nine different players making at least one three-pointer. CWRU finished the contest shooting 52.2% overall (26-of-69).

All 14 players who saw time on the court for the Spartans on Friday scored, including a game-high 19-point effort from senior guard Robert Faller Faller shot six-of-13 overall and three-of-five from long range, while adding five rebounds and four assists. Graduate student guard Mitch Prendergast added 15 points, while junior forward Cole Frilling tallied 14 points, seven rebounds, four assists and two steals. Graduate student guard Griffin Kornaker led all CWRU players with eight assists, while scoring seven points and collecting seven rebounds.

After falling behind 3-0, CWRU launched on a 17-2 run to take command of the game early, going ahead 17-5 with 12:48 to play in the first half on one of sophomore guard Daniel Florey's three three-pointers in the opening frame. CWRU went on to lead by as many as 33 in the first half, taking a 47-14 lead with 3:05 on another three by Florey, and carried a 52-24 lead into halftime.

CWRU shot 55.9% (19-of-34) from the floor in the first half, including eight-of-14 from behind the three-point line, while holding NYU to just 26.7% shooting overall (eight-of-30) and 27.3% from behind the arc (three-of-11).

The Spartans maintained at least a 23-point advantage for the entire second half, and a three-pointer by sophomore guard Jeremy Callahan with 5:45 to play put the Spartans in front 85-52, matching the team's largest lead of the game, en route to the 27-point victory.

CWRU has now won seven of its last eight matchups against NYU, including three of the last four in New York. The Spartans had just one road win in their all-time series against NYU prior to the 2017-18 campaign.

The Spartans were originally scheduled to face Brandeis on Sunday, but the game was postponed due to COVID protocols within the Brandeis program. Instead, Case Western Reserve will return home and turn its attention towards the start of a four-game conference home stand, beginning with a matchup against 25th-ranked Emory on Friday, January 21 at 6:00 p.m.
