BALTIMORE - No. 16 Swarthmore knocked off No. 12 Johns Hopkins, 78-69, in a Centennial Conference battle on Tuesday night. The Garnet improve to 12-1 overall and 6-0 in Centennial Conference action, while the Blue Jays fall to 9-2 and 5-1. 

After a pair of free throws from George Visconti, the Swarthmore defense forced Hopkins to call a timeout with 3:55 left in the game. Out of the timeout, the Blue Jays turned over the ball with a shot clock violation. With the help of Vinny DeAngeloConor Harkins knocked down a 3-pointer to give the Garnet a 66-64 advantage. The Visconti free throws started a 17-5 run to close out the last four-plus minutes of the game for Swarthmore. 

Swarthmore opened the second half with four consecutive free throws from Michael Caprise and DeAngelo. The Blue Jays answered with a 7-0 run, which was stopped by a Caprise 3-pointer. 

In the first half, Hopkins opened the game with a 12-2 run. Swarthmore answered with three-minute, 8-0 run that saw DeAngleo and Visconti each hitting a shot from distance. Abass Sallah added a pair of free throws during that run. With 2:34 remaining in the opening frame, DeAngelo gave Swarthore its first lead of the game at 27-25 with a driving layup. A Harkins three with just over a minute remaining and an Aidan Godfrey layup with 38 seconds left gave the Garnet a 32-31 advantage into the halftime break.

With the victory, Swarthmore has won 32 consecutive Centennial Conference regular season games dating back to the 2018-19 season. 

Swarthmore returns to the court against Washington College as they host the Shoremen (3-8, 0-4 CC) at Tarble Pavilion. Tip-off between the two Centennial Conference foes is set for 7 p.m. Spectators are not permitted to watch the game in person at Tarble Pavilion, but they can catch all the action with live video and live stats.
