#8 Marietta defeats Wilmington 78-61

MARIETTA, Ohio — No. 8 ranked Marietta College won its eighth straight game with a convincing 78-61 victory over Wilmington College Saturday (Jan. 8) afternoon in Ohio Athletic Conference men's basketball action.

The Pioneers are now 10-2 overall and 6-0 in the OAC. Wilmington falls to 2-10 on the season and 0-6 in conference games.

"A win is a win, but I would like to have seen us play better in the second half.," Marietta head coach Jon VanderWal said. "Addy (Black) was lights out today. He is getting more comfortable and has played great the last two games, especially in the first half today with a couple of threes and two dunks."

Wilmington scored the opening basket of the game. The Quaker lead was short-lived as Lukas Isaly nailed a three-pointer to give Marietta the lead. The Pioneers never trailed the rest of the afternoon.

Sophomore Addy Black drained a pair of three-pointers and poured in 13 points in the first half as the Pioneers led by 20 points, 42-22, at halftime. Black finished with a career-high 15 points to lead all scorers.

Marietta used a 17-2 run in the first half to take control of the game. Black scored nine of the 17 points including a pair of Fastbreak dunks. Brennen Crawford capped the spurt with a steal and jumper to make it 36-17 with 2:30 left in the first half.

Crawford added 10 points in the first half as Marietta's big men dominated the paint. Crawford finished with 14 points and three rebounds.

Lukas Isaly was also in double figures for Marietta with 14 points to go along with five rebounds. Jason Ellis dished out five assists and had five steals in addition to his six pints and four boards. Mason Lydic chipped in with seven points and eight rebounds.

Wilmington got no closer than 15 points in the second half as the Pioneers maintained a 20-point lead for most of the period. Crawford gave Marietta its biggest lead of the game, 23 points, with a layup at the 4:10 mark to make it 76-53.

Collmann Aaron was the lone Quaker to reach double figures scoring 10 points. Jeffrey Mansfield, Bryce Bird and Todd Larkin added nine points each, while Noah Dado finished with eight points and a game-high nine rebounds.

Marietta hosts the University of Mount, currently ranked No. 15, on Wednesday (Jan. 12). Tip-off in Ban Johnson Arena is set for 7 p.m.
