No. 18 Garnet Win Big Over Green Terror

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - No. 18 Swarthmore College Men's Basketball won big over McDaniel College in Centennial Conference play on Wednesday evening. The Garnet defeated the Green Terror 78-37 at Tarble Pavilion. 

Swarthmore improves to 10-1 and 4-0 in league play, while McDaniel drops to 4-5 and 0-4. With the victory, the Garnet extended its win streak to 12 straight over the Green Terror. In the last seven contests of that streak, Swarthmore has held their opponent to less than 50-points four times, including the last three games.

The two teams exchanged baskets to open the game, but a Michael Caprise layup with 16:19 left in the first gave Swarthmore the lead for good. McDaniel was held to 34.8% shooting in the first half, and they gave up 16 points in the paint to the Garnet during that half. Swarthmore was 6-of-8 from three point range in the first half and was led by Matt Mulvey, who was 3-of-4 from distance in the opening stanza. The Garnet forced 14 turnovers and scored 14 points off of those turnovers, including 11 in the second half.

Swarthmore ended the last eight minutes of play on a 21-4 run, which was led by Mulvey with eight points. Jared GroffChuck SweatJustin Tucker and Aidan Godfrey contributed with points during that run. In the game, Swarthmore attempted only three free throws. Mulvey finished the game with a career high 24 points, added five rebounds and shot 60% from three-point range. Vinny DeAngelo finished the contest with 13 points, while George Visconti added 12 points for Swarthmore. Off the bench, George Corzine and Groff added six points. Caprise led the charge with eight rebounds, while Conor Harkins added six boards.

The Garnet will host Franklin & Marshall College on Saturday in Centennial Conference action with tip-off slated for 3:00 p.m. The Diplomats come to Tarble Pavilion with a 4-6 overall record and 1-2 in Centennial Conference play.
