DANBURY, Conn. – Marcus Azor's steal and slam at the 14:58 mark of the second half welcomed the senior as the 50th member of the 1,000-point club at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. That sequence was part of a 15-6 run to help the Corsairs' men's basketball team (8-2, 1-1 LEC) overcome a 10-point halftime deficit and secure a 77-72 win at WestConn (7-5, 1-3 LEC) Wednesday night.

Azor notched his seventh double-double of the season with 10 points and 11 rebounds with six assists. Graduate student Jake Ashworth led the scoring charge with 18 points and added five boards and three steals. Junior Jackson Zancan finished with 13 points and eight rebounds, while seniors Sean Leahy and Adam Seablom each had 11 points, Leahy led the team with seven assists. Senior Dhalyn Sanders-Dyer chipped in nine points off the bench.

Four players scored in double figures for WestConn led by Ahmod Privott's 17 and seven rebounds.

After falling behind early, baskets in the paint by Leahy, Seablom, Ashworth and Zancan put the Corsairs back on top, 13-9, with 15:59 in the first half. WestConn then went on a 7-2 run to reclaim the lead until Ashworth ended that with a triple to make it 22-20 with 8:51 on the clock. WestConn answered with a three of its own to ignite a 21-9 run to take a 41-31 halftime advantage.

With its month-long rust shaken off, UMass Dartmouth began the second half on a 14-4 run that was highlighted by a Seablom triple and capped off by Azor's dunk that gave him points number 1,000 and 1,001 to even the score at 45 with 14:58 to go.

Ashworth and junior John Martins Jr. then knocked down a pair of triples followed by two more from long distance from Sander-Dyer and Azor to extend the lead to 70-59 with 3:25 left in regulation. WestConn cut its deficit to three, but had to foul as Zancan iced the game with a pair at the line.

UMass Dartmouth's next game at Southern Maine is postponed. The Corsairs will look forward to their Little East Conference home opener against Plymouth State at 4 p.m. on Monday.
