Edgewood College Erases Halftime Deficit for Third-Straight NACC win

LISLE, Ill. – The Edgewood College Men's Basketball team erased a 9-point halftime deficit to win its third-straight Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference game with a 75-72 victory at Benedictine University on Wednesday night. The Eagles starting five scored all 75 points in the league win.

EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 75, BENEDICTINE 72
- Trailing 45-36 at the break, Edgewood College (4-7, 3-1 NACC) wasted little time in getting back into the game early in the second half. Edgewood College opened the half on a 10-0 run to take a 46-45 lead, capped off by a Jake Schroeckenthaler basket with 15:41 left. Schroeckenthaler scored six points during the 10-0 run and finished the game leading all players with 27 points and 15 rebounds.

- It was a back-and-forth game from that point on, although Benedictine (5-6, 4-2 NACC) did push its lead back to seven with just under eight minutes left in regulation at 57-52. Edgewood College again responded and took a 61-60 lead after a 3-point make from Avery Lyons.

- Trailing 63-61 with just over three minutes left, Edgewood College received another big basket from Schroeckenthaler, who fought through contact and converted his free throw to put his team in front. The two teams traded baskets, another Schroeckenthaler make for Edgewood College, before Lyons put them up 68-65 with a step-back jumper.

- Benedictine would get back within a point after a couple made free throws, but Caden Nelson buried a 3-point jump shot with a little over a minute left to put Edgewood College back up four points. The Nelson 3-point make also resulted in the career-high 10th assist of the night for Lyons.

- After Benedictine again got within a point, Adam Baierl drove to the lane and hit a jumper to put Edgewood College back up three. Benedictine again got within a point but two Eli Hartjes free throws and a defensive stand allowed Edgewood College a third-straight NACC win.

- The Edgewood College starting five was fantastic Wednesday night. All five played at least 32 minutes with four finishing in double figures. Schroeckenthaler had 27 points and 15 rebounds, while Hartjes scored 20 points to go along with six boards. Baierl added six boards as well and 11 points and Nelson chipped in with 10. Lyons finished the night with seven points, the career-high 10 assists, six rebounds, and two steals. Off the bench, Dawson Hughes added two steals as well, providing solid defense in his 13 minutes on the floor.

- The final stats were pretty even across the board, but a big advantage for Edgewood College was they made more free throws (14) than Benedictine (13) despite attempting six less shots from the line. Edgewood College finished 14-of-16, while Benedictine missed several down the stretch and finished 13-for-22.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Schroeckenthaler and Hartjes now rank first and second in the NACC in scoring. Schroeckenthaler leads the league with 20.8 points per game with Hartjes close behind at 20.4 points. They also both rank in the top three in rebounding with Schroeckenthaler leading the league at 10.8 rebounds per game.

- Edgewood College will host MSOE in a Saturday night contest inside the Todd Wehr Edgedome. The Eagles will look for their fourth-straight NACC win with the contest set for a 7 p.m. start.
