The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's basketball team broke a 12-year-old school scoring record Tuesday night in a 143-102 win against Greenville (Ill.) in a non-conference contest at Kachel Gymnasium.
The Warhawks (7-2 overall), who topped the previous high of 134 points set on Nov. 28, 2009, against Grinnell (Iowa), also tied a school record set in 1983 with 60 made field goals and shot 74.1 percent from the floor, tying the No. 2 mark in school history from a game against Cardinal Stritch in 2013. UW-W's 47 assists are also a new program record, besting the previous mark of 38 from a game against Concordia Chicago from 1988.
Jack Brahm totaled a career-high 30 points on 14-of-15 shooting, the sixth-highest field goal percentage by an individual in one game in program history, and added three assists, three steals and two blocks.
Trevon Chislom posted 19 points, including two on a highlight-reel tomahawk slam over a defender on a baseline drive, to go along with five rebounds. Derek Gray tallied 10 points, five rebounds and three assists, and Brian Conaghan contributed 12 points, four rebounds and four assists. Jameer Barker and Carter Capstran each dished out six assists for UW-Whitewater.
The Panthers (1-9) led for most of the opening 10 minutes of the contest, including a game-high seven-point margin at two different points of the first half.
Malensek gave the Warhawks the lead for good with a pair of free throws at the 8:28 mark. Three minutes later,UW-W expanded its advantage to nine thanks to 3-pointers by Conaghan and JT Hoytink around a layup by Capstran.
UW-Whitewater's lead grew to double digits following a layup by Lambert with 3:49 on the clock and ballooned to 65-45 by the 1:16 mark as Brahm capped a 14-0 run with a layup. The Warhawks maintained their 20-point advantage into halftime.
A dunk by Caleb Flaten-Moore just over two minutes into the second half gave UW-W a 25-point lead. The advantage grew to 30 four minutes later on a layup by Lambert at the 13:12 mark.
The Warhawks led by as many as 46 points the rest of the way.
Prior to the game, UW-Whitewater Director of Athletics Ryan Callahan recognized head coach Pat Miller for achieving his 400th win last week at Lake Forest (Ill.). Miller's colleagues, friends and family recognized him during a tribute video played prior to tipoff.
