Giants Stall Out Against St. Joseph's Brooklyn In York Invitational

JAMAICA, N.Y. – Keystone men's basketball wrapped up the York Invitational with an 80-74 loss to St. Joseph's Brooklyn in the consolation game Saturday afternoon at the York College Gymnasium.

The contest saw its 11th and final tie with a 69-69 score at the 7:34 mark of the second half as the Bears proceeded to outscore the Giants, 11-5, for the final arithmetic.

It was St. Joseph's Brooklyn's first win of the season as it improved to 1-10 (0-3 Skyline) while Keystone dropped to 3-8 (1-1 CSAC).

Outstanding Performers

  • Jack Anderson (Davie, Fla./Western High) splashed seven 3-pointers and finished with 32 points — both career highs. The freshman scored in bunches, going on runs of 12, 10 and eight points — the latter of which brought the Giants from down six to tie the game at 69.
  • Tone Cockrell (Upper Marlboro, Md./Landon School) matched a career-best with five field goals from beyond the arc on the way to finishing with 22 points and six assists. The graduate senior was hot out the gates, going perfect from the field to score 14 points before his first miss with under three minutes left in the first half. Cockrell was also named to the All-York Invitational Team.
  • St. Joseph's Brooklyn's Chris Mikos was also selected to the All-York Invitational Team. He poured in 30 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals.
  • Richie Simon had a double-double for the Bears with 11 points and 11 boards.
