FERRUM, Va. -- Junior Ryan Clements (Conyers, GA) posted a double-double with season-highs of 26 points and 11 rebounds to lead Hampden-Sydney College to an 86-83 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) basketball road win at Ferrum College on Wednesday night in Ferrum. Sophomores Davidson Hubbard (Charlotte, NC) and DJ Wright (Greensboro, GA) each scored 12 points, and classmate Adam Brazil (Mooresville, NC) added 10 points for the visiting Tigers, who rallied from a 37-34 halftime deficit while improving to 5-0 overall, 1-0 in the ODAC. James Smith Jr. scored 25 points for the host Panthers, who dropped to 4-2 overall, 0-2 in the ODAC.

"Gritty win tonight," said third-year head coach Caleb Kimbrough. "We found a way to get it done on the road late, which is a huge step for this team. It seems to be a different guy every night who steps up. Very proud of Ryan's leadership tonight, he refused to let us lose."

H-SC jumped out to an early 7-2 advantage just 1:30 into the contest following a game-opening three-point field goal by Brazil and back-to-back layups from Hubbard and Clements, respectively—the latter on a fast break. FC rallied back to take an 11-9 lead at 15:48, but the Tigers responded with eight unanswered points to go back ahead at 17-11 with 12:28 on the clock—Wright scoring four quick points. The visitors maintained their advantage and led 29-24 at 4:55 following a step-back three-pointer by freshman Nick Shryock (Davidson, NC), and it was a 34-30 lead at 3:01 after another three-pointer, this time from Wright. The Panthers, however, closed the half with seven unanswered points to lead 37-34 at the intermission.

H-SC closed to within 39-38 early in the second half at 18:46 after a layup by sophomore Josiah Hardy (Ashburn), but FC used a quick 15-5 run to take its largest lead of the contest at 54-43 with 14:15 remaining. The Tigers, however, answered back with a 12-4 run of their own to pull within 58-55 at 11:17—getting five points from fifth-year Jake Hahn (Ruckersville) before Shryock closed the run with a conventional three-point play. The Panthers pushed their advantage to 64-58 with 9:44 on the clock, but the Garnet and Grey rallied back with a game-changing 18-7 run to lead 76-71 at 1:53 after a jumper by Brazil. Clements and Hardy sparked the outburst with six points each. Following a three-pointer by Brazil at 1:15, the visitors secured their road victory with 7-10 free throws over the final 51-seconds, including 6-8 by Clements.

Clements led H-SC with his first double-double of the season … a season-high and game-high 26 points, including 10-12 free throws, adding season-highs of 11 rebounds and four steals, along with three assists. Hubbard and Wright each added 12 points, with Hubbard adding career-highs of eight rebounds and two blocks, as well, for the Tigers. Brazil contributed 10 points, while Hardy added eight points and Hahn had seven points and nine rebounds. H-SC shot 46% (27-59) from the field, including 30% (7-23) on three-pointers, and 78% (25-32) at the free throw line.

Smith led FC with his 25 points, while Kajuan Madden-McAfee added a double-double with 19 points and a game-high 12 rebounds, along with a game-high five assists, as well, for the Panthers. FC shot 48% (32-67) from the field, including 39% (13-33) on three-pointers, and 75% (6-8) at the line.
