HAVERFORD, Pa. - No. 18 Swarthmore College Men's Basketball knocked off Haverford College, 81-50, in Centennial Conference on Thursday evening. Michael Caprise recorded his first collegiate double-double with a career-high in rebounds.
The Garnet improve to 5-1 and 2-0 in conference play, while the Fords drop to 4-3 and 1-1. Swarthmore extended its winning streak to 11 straight games over the Fords, and the Garnet have won 28 straight Centennial Conference regular season games. The conference win streak dates back to January 24th, 2019.
Swarthmore wasted no time getting the lead as Vinny DeAngelo knocked down a free throw just 13-seconds into the game. DeAngelo hit jumper and Caprise added a layup to extend the lead to 5-0 with only a minute and thirty seconds gone in the opening half. Just under three minutes gone in the half, George Corzine had a rim-rattling dunk off of a missed Abass Sallah layup. The Garnet struggled from three-point range in the first half, shooting only 1-of-11 from range.
George Visconti opened the scoring for Swarthmore in the second half. Mid-way through the second half, DeAngelo hit a three to make it a 60-36 lead. Matt Mulvey extended that lead with a layup.
Caprise led the Garnet with 15 points and a career high 13 rebounds. Visconti added 12 points, while DeAngelo recorded 11 points. Mulvey contributed with seven points, while Major Eason, TJ Chapman, Jared Groff and Alec White all added baskets for the Garnet.
The Garnet return to the court on Saturday, as they host Dickinson College in Centennial Conference play. Tip-off at Tarble Pavilion is set for 3:00 p.m.
