• The Short Story: Junior Tom Quarry scored 22 of his 27 points in the second half as the 14th-ranked Johns Hopkins men's basketball team opened conference play with an 88-56 win over Gettysburg Tuesday night.

How it Happened
• Trailing 10 points at halftime, Jack Rooney drained a three in the corner to spark a 12-8 spurt that made it a six-point game at the 14:26-mark. Quarry then drained a three-pointer from the wing to ignite a 34-7 run, that spanned nearly 10 minutes, and saw the Blue Jays' lead balloon to 33. Five different players scored during the run, but it was Quarry doing most of the damage with 19 points.
• Hopkins would push its lead to as many as 36, while it never dipped below 31, in the final five minutes.
• Graduate student Conner Delaney opened the scoring with a pair of free throws just nine seconds into the game. But the Bullets answered with seven straight points to go up 7-2 on a Ryan McKeon triple at 18:19. The lead seesawed up and down over the next three minutes and Gettysburg led 12-7.
• Junior Lincoln Yeutter got a bucket in the paint, followed by an Ethan Bartlett three-pointer and just like that it was a tie game. That kick-started a 21-0 run as the Blue Jays methodically built a 28-12 lead with points coming from six players. Colin Farrell ended the run with a four-point play a the 5:43-mark.
• Bartlett scored from downtown to push the lead back to 15, but a Max Pernetti turnaround jumper sparked a 9-2 run that saw Gettysburg slice the deficit to eight with 48 ticks on the clock. Junior Sidney Thybulle and junior Carson James sandwiched buckets around a Akim Joseph layup and Hopkins took a 37-27 lead into the half.
