Middletown, CT --- On the first possession of the game John Adams (Douglas, MA) laid one in with some help from Kahleb Downing (Middletown, CT) and the WPI men's basketball team never looked back en route to a 103-61 wire-to-wire victory over Mitchell College on Saturday night in the opening game of the Herb Kenny Tournament on the campus of Wesleyan.  

The Engineers are off to a 4-0 start to the season for the fourth time in the last six seasons.  

Adams led the way for the Engineers finishing with a monster 27-point, 13-rebound effort, setting new highs in both categories in his young career. Aidan Callahan (Rowley, MA) added 13 points off of a 6-of-8 effort while also pulling down three rebounds.  

Mitchell was led by Mikey Buscetto (Waterford, CT) who finished with 16 points and four assists on the night.  

WPI finished with a 57.1 field goal percentage (44 of 77), including a 66.7 shooting percentage in the first half, draining 24 of their 36 attempts. The Engineers also outrebounded the Mariners 50 to 22. 

The Engineers started things off on a 7-0 run, and later used a 10-0 run capped by a Callahan jumper to gain a 23-8 advantage with 13 minutes remaining in the first half. 

The Engineers built up as much as a 43-17 lead with 6:28 to go in the first half after an Adams and-one before Mitchell utilized a 9-0 run to cut into the lead, but a Brett Marelli (Hampton, NH) 3-pointer ended that run as the Engineers went into the locker rooms at halftime with a 55-33 advantage.  

Callahan started the second half off with a hot hand netting the first five points of the half for the Engineers en route to an 11-2 run that featured treys from Callahan and Downing getting out to its largest lead of the ballgame, 66-35 with 17:52 left in the game.  

The Engineers continued to build on that lead, finishing with the 42-point victory, the team's largest win since a 90-38 victory over Framingham State on Jan. 4, 2020.  It marked the 47th time in the over 125 history of WPI basketball that the Crimson and Gray reached triple digits while the 103 points is tied for the 26th highest point total and it's the most in a game since 105 versus Salem State on November 27th, 2011. 

WPI is back in action on Sunday afternoon, looking to pick up its second-straight tournament title of the 2021-22 season, taking on host Wesleyan in the championship game of the Herb Kenny Tournament.
