Middletown, CT --- Host Wesleyan netted 12 straight points to start the second half to help deliver WPI men's basketball its first loss of the season Sunday afternoon, 80-56, in the championship game of the Herb Kenny Tournament.  The Cardinals remain undefeated at 5-0 on the season while the Crimson and Gray dip to 4-1. 

Engaged in a tight game for the first 12 minutes of the opening half, the Cardinals used a 20-5 spurt over the next six minutes to turn a narrow 16-14 edge into a 36-19 advantage.  The Engineers however scored the final seven points of the half via an Aidan Callahan (Rowley, MA), a John Adams (Douglas, MA) layup and a pair of John Lowther (Hingham, MA) free throws to slice the intermission deficit to 10 at 36-26. 

WPI was not able to continue its momentum after the break as Preston Maccoux (Big Ben, WI) drained a pair of 3-pointer and Sam Peek (Poughkeepsie, NY) added four points during the 12-0 second half-opening surge for Wesleyan. 

Adams capped a big weekend by posting his second straight double-double with 18 points and 10 boards.  The sophomore helped WPI reach Sunday's championship game with a 27-point, 13-rebound performance in a 103-61 victory over Mitchell on Saturday evening. 

Colin McNamara (Arlington, MA) was the only other Engineer player to reach double figures in scoring.  The graduate student tallied 10 points to go along with a game-high three steals in joining Adams on the All-Tournament team  Brett Marelli (Hampton, NH), fresh off a career-best 10 points last night, added nine points Sunday and Lowther finished with eight.      

Maccoux highlighted five Wesleyan players with double digit scoring with 16 points.  Others included Peek with 15, Antone Walker (Philadelphia, PA) and Gabe Ravetz (New York, NY) with 13 apiece and Jordan James (Vienna, VA) with 10. James, the Tournament MVP, anchored the defensive effort with six blocks as the Cardinals held WPI to a season low 31.5% shooting from the floor, including 3-of-15 from 3-point land. Peek also double-doubled with 10 rebounds, and both Walker and Maccoux doled out four assists. 

The Engineers close out a six-contest stretch in 12-day run on Tuesday with a trip up I-190 to face Fitchburg State at 7pm.  Wesleyan hits the road next Sunday for a 2pm tipoff at Drew (NJ).
