St. John Fisher Defeats Rochester in Mark's Pizzeria Shootout

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Rochester was unable to recover from an ice-cold shooting start to the second half and wound up falling to St. John Fisher College, 76-60, in the Mark's Pizzeria Crosstown Shootout at Nazareth College. The Yellowjackets are 3-2 overall.
 
It was an entertaining first half with seven ties and six lead changes. Fisher led at the half, 36-35. Rochester shot 53% in the first half (15-28). The second half was frigid. UR made 5 of 21 from the floor (21%) and couldn't connect on any of its nine three-point attempts in the second half.
 
Fisher built off a small flurry it had near the end of the first half. Brendan Trapper hit a three-pointer and Daniel Cook made a dunk off a fast break to take a 36-35 lead into halftime. The Cardinals (3-2) outscored Rochester 12-5 in the early minutes and led 48-40.
 
Dan Masino led Rochester with 16 points. He hit 5 of 10 from the floor, five of six from the line, had six rebounds and three assists. Matt Nierczura sank a pair of treys in the first half enroute to 10 points for the game. Fisher had 12 steals on 18 turnovers by UR and that led to 21 SJFC points. Cook led the Cardinals with 23 points and a dozen rebounds. Sean Williams scored 19 points and handed out seven assists. Trapper scored 12 points.
 
Rochester returns to the Palestra on Tuesday evening to play Hobart College at 8 pm. That follows a 6 pm women's game between Rochester and William Smith.
