Huntingdon, Pa. - (11/19/2021) - Led by senior guard Ty Jones (Harlem, N.Y.), four Griffins scored in double figures in a 91-81 Gwynedd Mercy University (4-1) victory over Washington and Jefferson College (3-1). The triumph earns the Griffins a 7:00 p.m. p.m. tip-off for the Juniata College Tournament Championship contest against the hosting Eagles. Jones finished with 18 points, three rebounds, three assists, and a steal. He did most of his work at the free throw line (7-of-8, .875) while fellow double digit scorers sophomore guard Aziz Parker (Westhampton, N.J.) (17 points), senior guard Jaye'Lyn Peebles (Chester, Pa.) (15), and sophomore guard Manny Clark (Pottsgrove, Pa.) (14) combined to go 7-of-12 (.583) from long range. Graduate forward Donaven Spencer (Sicklerville, N.J.) was a factor as well with six points and a dozen (12) rebounds.

Gwynedd Mercy University found their first lead, 35-34, on a Peebles three pointer with 3:45 remaining in the first half. The Griffins never looked back, as they built upon a 45-37 halftime advantage with an early second-half push that extended their advantage to 18 points, 63-45, with 13:19 to play. But the Presidents had their runs as well, narrowing the margin to 10 points, 76-66 (6:38), before the sequence repeated itself with a 89-71 Griffin flex and a 91-81 final.
