BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Back in uniform for the first time in four games, Alex Kravchuk poured in 28 points off the bench to lead the University of New England in an 80-74 triumph over Saint Joseph's College of Maine in men's basketball action at Court Beaudry's Court inside the Harold Alfond Forum on Thursday night (Nov. 18).

Trailing 62-59 inside the final seven minutes, a quick five by Kravchuk and three more from Ray Evans flipped the advantage for good (67-62). A bucket by Drake Gavin and a trey from Kravchuk made it 72-64 with 4:12 to go, and the stretch capped at 21-6 (80-68) with a couple Kravchuk free throws.

Kravchuk went 9-of-16 from the floor, including four three-pointers, and made all six of his freebies. The Nor'easters (1-4) received a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds out of Gavin, while Anthony Senesombath tallied 14 points, as well. Evans had nine points, and Ric Castillo corralled 10 rebounds.

UNE finished on top of a 47-32 margin on the glass, which included 16 offensive boards. Eleven of those came following intermission, and produced 17 second-chance points.

For the Monks (1-3), Nicholas Curtis registered 20 points and matched Kravchuk with four steals. Griffin Foley and Julian Llopiz scored 13 apiece. Camryn Yorke had a team-best seven caroms.

The hosts got off to a 13-4 start, only to see SJC slip in front (23-22) midway through the initial period. However, a 19-5 spurt, with 12 from Kravchuk, vaulted the Nor'easters back into the lead (41-28).

Saint Joseph's struck for the last four of the 1st half, and then the first 11 of the 2nd, to snag the edge on the scoreboard (45-53) just 3:06 into last stanza. The visitors maintained a slim cushion, of no more than four, until UNE's strong closing.
