Buena Vista takes off on second half run out of the locker room to down UW-Stout 102-84

MENOMONIE (November 19, 2021) – Buena Vista University broke open a one-point game by opening the second half with an 8-2 run and went on to hand UW-Stout their first defeat of the season, a 102-84 decision Friday on Dewey Mintz Court in Johnson Fieldhouse.

 

Buena Vista (2-1) and Stout (3-1) played a tight first half with the Beavers taking 49-48 lead into the locker room. On their second half run, Buena Vista jumped out to a 60-48 lead and Stout cut the lead to eight a few times and as close to seven points at 14:12 on a 3-pointer by Armani Tinsely, but that would be as close as the Blue Devils would get the rest of the way. With two minutes left to play, Buena Vista held an 102-82 lead.

 

Stout's Lovell Williams led all scorers with a career-best 31 points, 21 in the first half. Luke Geiger added 14 and Brody Fox chipped in 12.

 

The Beavers had four players in double digits, led by Michael Demers' 21 points. Zane Neubaum contributed 18, Garrett Sittner 13 and Jacob Privia 10. Trey Valentine pulled down nine rebounds to lead all players as Buena Vista held a 44-34 advantage off the glass.

 

The Beavers shot 59.4 percent (38-64) from the floor, 45.5 percent (15-33) from 3-point range and 78.6 percent (11-14) from the line. Stout shot 38.4 percent (28-73) from the floor, 29.3 percent (12-41) from 3-point range and 72.7 percent (16-22) from the free throw line.

 

Stout limited their turnovers to 11, while Buena Vista committed 21 turnovers.

 

Stout is off until Saturday, Nov. 27 when they host Alma College at 3 p.m.
