RADFORD, Pa. – The Elizabethtown College men's basketball team fell to Cabrini, 76-58, in non-conference action Tuesday night.
With the loss, the Blue Jays fall to 2-2 while the Cavaliers improve to 3-1.
Senior Jalin Robinson finished with a team-high 14. Sophomore Tyreke Herbert added nine points, eight assists, seven rebounds, and four steals.
Sophomore Aquil Stewart led all scorers with 20 points for Cabrini.
Down two (9-7) early in the first half, Etown knotted the score up as Herbert found senior Aidan Trynosky for the jumper in the paint with 15:56 remaining in the opening period. Herbert followed that up with a layup of his own from classmate Nick Rappa to put the Blue Jays up 11-9.
Cabrini battled back with a 14-5 run to stretch its lead to seven (23-16) with just over six minutes to play capped off by a jumper by sophomore Josh Jones. The Blue Jays, however, quickly stopped the surge, and tied the game at 23 after a three pointer from freshman Rance Russo with 4:51 remaining in the half.
The Cavaliers snatched the lead back one last time, knocking down two free throws with under a minute to play to make the score 32-28 at the break.
At the start of the second half, Robinson put Elizabethtown on the board first as he grabbed an offensive rebound and laid it back in to cut the Cabrini advantage to two (30-32) just under thirty seconds into the final stanza. The Cavaliers, however, snatched the momentum back, using a 14-0 run to go up 46-32 with 15:50 on the clock.
The Blue Jays were unable to recover as Cabrini stretched its lead to as many as 21, locking up its third win of the season, 76-58.
Elizabethtown made 22-63 (34.9%) from the floor and was 26.1% (6-23) from three. Cabrini finished the game shooting 36% (27-75) overall and knocked down 3-23 (12%) from beyond the arc. The Cavaliers found their advantage in the paint, outscoring the Blue Jays 44-28.
Elizabethtown returns to Thompson Gymnasium on Saturday, November 20 against King's. Opening tip is set for 2 p.m.
