La PLUME, Pa. – The Keystone men's basketball team dropped its home opener to Western Connecticut State, 80-59, in a Wednesday night non-conference game at the Gambal Athletic Center.
The Giants held a narrow lead through the first four minutes of play, but WestConn took over and never looked back, holding its largest lead at 23 points with just over eight minutes remaining in the game.
Keystone dropped to 1-2 on the season while Western Connecticut State, of the Little East Conference, improved to 2-1.
It was Keystone's first home men's basketball game since Feb. 2020.
Standout Performers
- Freshman Pete Laidley (Miramar, Fla./Pembrokes Pine Charter) recorded his first career double-double with 11 rebounds and 10 points. He also tallied up six blocks.
- Tyrell Lacoste (Aberdeen, Md./Aberdeen) came off the bench and poured in a team-high 15 points off a 5-for-9 shooting night with all field goals coming from beyond the arc. The senior tied a career-best of 15 points with a personal best of 3-pointers made in a single game.
- WestConn's Wes Nelson had a game-high 16 points with an 8-for-12 outing along with four rebounds, four assists and three steals.
