The Case Western Reserve University recovered from a loss on Saturday night in dominant fashion on Sunday, picking up a 76-51 win over St. John Fisher College in the consolation game of the 2021 Sudeck Tournament, presented by Yalo, inside Horsburgh Gymnasium in Cleveland, Ohio.

The win raised the Spartans' record to 1-1 on the season, and gave the team a third-place finish at the tournament, while the Cardinals finished in fourth place and dropped to 0-2 on the year.

Just a day after struggling on both ends of the floor against a hot-shooting Wisconsin-Eau Claire team, CWRU turned around its game both offensively and defensively. The Spartans finished the game shooting 49.2% (30-for-61) from the floor, including a 32.1% mark (nine-of-28) from long range, while holding the Cardinals to just 35.6% shooting overall, including a 15.4% mark from behind the three-point line.

The Spartans were led on Sunday by All-Sudeck Tournament selection Mitch Prendergast. The graduate student guard finished with a game-high 20 points on eight-of-13 shooting overall, including four-of-eight on long range attempts. He averaged 18.0 points over the two tournament games, his first two as a Spartan.

Thirteen total players scored for CWRU in a team-effort for the win. Junior forward Cole Frilling and graduate student forward Brian Hines each tallied a team-high six rebounds, and graduate student guard Griffin Kornaker led all CWRU players with six assists to go along with eight points, five rebounds and a pair of steals.

The Spartans led wire-to-wire on Sunday, taking an early lead on their first possession of the game on a three-pointer by senior guard Robert Faller. They led by as many as 14 points in the opening half, taking a 37-23 advantage on a steal and a layup by Hines with 1:30 left in the period, and closed out the half with a 37-28 lead.

Prendergast connected on back-to-back threes in the first minute of the second half to quickly grow the CWRU lead to 43-28. The Spartans would lead by double digits the rest of the way and would take a game-high 28-point lead on a jumper by first-year guard Diego Echavarria with 1:04 left to play.

CWRU's bench outscored St. John Fisher's 32-7 during the game.

The Spartans will be back in action on Wednesday night, when the team travels to Denison University for a 7:00 p.m. matchup with the Big Red.
