Stout takes early lead over Division I Loyola, but succumb to Ramblers in exhibition contest

CHICAGO (November 3, 2021) - UW-Stout's longest serving veterans hit back-to-back 3-point shots to open the game and the Blue Devils held a 6-2 lead over NCAA Division I Loyola University-Chicago at Gentile Arena, but the Ramblers took the lead at at 16:30 of the first half and never looked back on their way to a 93-41 exhibition win Wednesday.

Jon Ciriacks hit a 3-pointer less than a minute into the game to give Stout a 3-0 lead. Aher Uguak pulled Loyola to within one and Stout's Luke Geiger made it a 6-2 game. Loyola went up 11-6 and Ciriacks cut the lead to 11-8 at 14:53. 

Loyola, which advanced to the Sweet 16 of the 2021 NCAA Division I Tournament, rolled out to a 51-19 halftime lead. 

The Ramblers finished the night hitting 57.1 percent (36-63) from the floor, but only 34.6 percent from 3-point range (9-26). 

The Blue Devils were led by sophomore guard Lovell Williams, who scored 10 points. Williams hit 4 of 9 from the floor and 2 of 4 from 3-point range. Ciriaks finished the night with five points and six rebounds and Geiger had three points. Armani Tinsley and Jackson Noll each scored four points. 

Loyola point guard Braden Norris led all scorers with 17 points. Lucas Williamson had 11 points and Uguak and Jacob Hutson, a 6-10 center from Edina, Minn., each 10 points. 

Loyola outrebounded Stout 47-35. While Stout committed 21 turnovers, the Blue Devils forced 15 turnovers by the Ramblers. 

Stout will open the regular season Friday, Nov. 5 when they travel to St. Olaf College for a 7 p.m. tipoff.
