SPOKANE, Wash. – Whitworth completed a weekend sweep of visiting George Fox with a dominating 98-45 victory over the Bruins on Saturday night in the Whitworth Fieldhouse.
The Pirates improved to 10-5 and will stay at home to host Pacific Lutheran in a pair of make up games next weekend. The Bruins dropped to 0-2.
Twenge scored all of his career-high 19 points in the first half as the Pirates jumped out to a 52-25 lead at the break. Liam Fitzgerald had five quick points to help Whitworth take a quick 15-2 lead. After George Fox got within 28-16 on a JD Ahlstrom jumper, the Bucs used a 19-4 run to break the game open. Twenge scored nine points in the spurt. Whitworth made 66% (23-35) from the floor in the first period, including 4-8 from three-point range. The Bucs had a 20-9 edge in rebounding and forced 10 turnovers by GFU.
Whitworth continued to extend the lead in the second half, shooting efficiently and dominating the boards, outscoring the Bruins 46-20. Every Pirate who played in the game scored points as Whitworth shot 53% from the floor and outrebounded GFU 28-13 in the second period.
Miguel Lopez added his second double-double of the season for the Bucs with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Tanner Fogle came off the bench to set a new career-high with 15 points, 13 in the second half. Wyatt Walker also scored seven for the best of his young career. Rowan Anderson dished eight of Whitworth's 25 assists (on 41 made shots).
JD Ahlstrom scored 14 points for George Fox and was the only Bruin in double figures. Charlie Powers led his squad with eight rebounds. GFU struggled to make shots all night, finishing 16-57 (28%) from the field, 6-31 (19%) from beyond the arc.
