Sewanee Concludes Weekend Series with BSC

SEWANEE, Tenn. - The University of the South men's basketball team suffered its second defeat in as many days with an 89-72 setback to the Panthers of Birmingham-Southern College, Sunday afternoon inside Juhan Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Panthers picked up where they left off after Saturday's win on Sunday, knocking down four of their first six shots. However, the Tigers stayed in stride, keeping the contest at a one-possession deficit through the first eight minutes of the contest.

-BSC would push the lead to nine points, 27-18 with 10 minutes left in the opening half thanks to a 10-3 run.

-The visitors took advantage of Sewanee's poor shooting late in the first half, posting a 12-4 run to lead 39-24 with 3:05 left en route to a 47-34 halftime lead for the Panthers.

-Birmingham-Southern, who never trailed in the game, had a lead at one point of 28 points midway through the second half as they completed the weekend sweep on the Domain.

NOTES & NUGGETS
-Due to the University's COVID-19 protocols, no fans were allowed inside Juhan Gymnasium.

-Despite being conference opponents, both games this weekend will count as regular season contests, and they will not count in the league standings.

SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Sean McDonough knocked down five triples as he finished the game with 17 points to lead the Tigers.

-Joey Knox added 14 points, while Jordan Warlick totaled 10 points and seven boards.

BIRMINGHAM-SOUTHERN KEY STATISTICS
-Matt Gonda scored 17 points to lead Birmingham-Southern and added six rebounds.

-Troy Stephens also contributed 14 points, while Evan Sigler and Bruce Bright Jr. each added 12.

UP NEXT
