LISLE, IL - The Benedictine University men's basketball team saw three players reach double figures and turned the ball over just five times in taking the opener of back-to-back home contests with Dominican.

THE DETAILS
A first half run was the difference for a third consecutive contest, breaking open a close game
Neither team led by more than four points early in the game
Marvin Agwomoh scored on consecutive possessions to enable Benedictine to take the lead for good
Collin Mergl splashed home a three-pointer to make the score 24-18 with 7:48 left in the half, capping a 9-0 run
Chris Hester dropped home a layup to extend the lead to double figures at 30-20 with 4:44 left in the half
Benedictine closed the half on an 11-3 spurt to open a 47-32 halftime lead
The lead reached 19 at 55-36 early in the second half on back-to-back baskets from Michael Johnson and Hester
Dominican was able to hang around, pulling to within eight at 82-74 with 3:11 left after an 8-0 run, but Benedictine hit six straight free throws to open an 88-74 edge in the final minute

Hester paced Benedictine with 23 points, finishing 10-of-16 from the floor
Hester added 10 rebounds to finish with a double-double
Johnson finished with 19 points
Trevor Montiel also finished with a double-double, notching 15 points to go with 14 rebounds
Benedictine shot 47.3 percent in totaling a season high for points despite shooting just 14.3 percent (3-21) from three-point range
The contest featured three ties and 10 lead changes
Benedictine scored 60 points in the paint
