More news about: Ripon

Ripon College senior Trent Jones has been named Midwest Conference Player of the Year, as released Thursday by the conference office. That marks the sixth time this decade, and 10th time in school history, that a Ripon College men's basketball player has received that honor. Jones is the lone Ripon player to make this year's All-Conference team, earning First Team recognition.

A Business Management major from Dodgeville, Jones is second in the MWC in scoring with 20.2 points per game, while his 485 total points are 15 shy of becoming just the 16th player in Ripon history to score 500 points in a season. Jones leads the MWC in steals (2.1 spg), while ranking third in field goal percentage (.549). He is also averaging 5.5 rebounds, which is second on the team, to go along with a team-high 2.5 assists per game. He is shooting 31 percent from 3-point range and 69 percent from the free throw line, which ranks 10th in the MWC.

Jones currently ranks 15th in program history in career points (1,218), despite scoring just 10 as a freshman. He also ranks 10th in career steals (110).

Jones and the Red Hawks will bring the MWC's longest winning streak of nine games into this weekend's MWC Tournament, hosted by St. Norbert in De Pere, Wis. Ripon will battle Lake Forest in Friday's second semifinal at 7 p.m., with the winner advancing to Saturday's MWC Championship Game at 3 p.m.
