Barnes Records Double-Double in Wolves Loss

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. — James Barnes (Rochester, N.Y. / University Prep) scored 20 points and added 11 rebounds but the Wolves fell 87-71 at Morrisville State on Tuesday night.

Barnes led Keuka College (5-16, 4-10 NEAC) in both scoring and rebounding. Alex Medellin (Gilbert, Ariz. / Desert Ridge) added 14 points and Kyle Coffin (Newark Valley, N.Y. / Newark Valley) finished with 13 for the Wolves.

The Wolves jumped out to an early lead over the Mustangs. Alex Medellin hit his first three attempt and was fouled. The sophomore completed the four-point play as the Wolves took a 10-3 lead four minutes into the game. The Green and Gold would extend their lead to 12 in the half, but Morrisville State continued to fight. The Mustangs made back-to-back threes to tie the game at 21-21. That was a part of an 11-0 run for the hosts as Morrisville took the lead. Devin Milton (Opelousas, La. / Beau Chene) took the lead back with a three, but the Mustangs would pull ahead towards the end of the half. After a block by Keuka, Nana Oteng (Queens, N.Y. / Martin Luther) raced down the floor and laid the ball in at the buzzer, but Keuka would trail 37-32 at the half.

Morrisville State extended their lead in the second half. Keuka College missed a pair of threes in the first ten minutes of the half while Morrisville knocked down three to extend a lead to 61-45. Jordan Lewis (Houston, Texas / Home-Schooled) hit a handoff three from Matt Ciezki (Lancaster, N.Y. / St. Mary's) to cut the margin to 11, 61-50, with nine minutes left to play. Kyle Coffin had a personal 5-0 run for the Wolves as Keuka got it back to a 10-point game, 65-55, with seven minutes remaining. The Wolves would sink the margin to single-digits on a Coffin three, but the Mustangs quickly reestablished the advantage. Another three by Coffin made the score 71-63 with four minutes left. However, eight points would be as close as the Wolves would make it. Morrisville State continued onto the 87-71 victory.

Up Next for Keuka College: The Wolves conclude the 2019-20 on their home floor this weekend. Keuka College will host Penn College at the JMW Recreation and Athletics Center on Friday night. The Wolves then host Penn St.-Berks to close the season on Saturday.
