#15 Marietta posts 105-74 win over Wilmington on Senior Day

MARIETTA, Ohio – Five players scored in double figures as No. 15 Marietta College cruised to a 105-74 Senior Day win over visiting Wilmington College Saturday (Feb. 15) afternoon. The Pioneers improve to 19-4 overall and 13-3 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. The Quakers fall to 10-13 overall and 8-8 in the OAC.

"I was really proud to see us turnaround after Wednesday to step up and be tough today, knock down shots and play a well-rounded game," Marietta head coach Jon VanderWal said. "Caleb (Hoyng) and Mike (Hall) both played really well today. It was awesome to see them have a successful day on the court as seniors in their last regular season home game."

The teams traded baskets for the first three minutes of the game, and the game was tied at nine points apiece. Marietta extended a 16-9 edge at the 15:38 mark, behind a 7-0 run, which forced a Wilmington timeout. The run saw Lukas Isaly, Mike Hall, and Jake Montgomery all score.

Out of the timeout, the Pioneers outscored the Quakers, 13-6 to extend a 29-15 advantage with 11:22 minutes to play in the half. The run was highlighted by three's from Mason Lydic, Jason Ellis, and Jalen Greiser. Marietta continued to play well and held a 46-25 edge with five minutes to play in the half.

The Pioneers closed out the half, and maintained their double-digit lead, 61-36.  Christian James scored the final five points of the first half for Marietta.

Wilmington opened the second half on a 12-2 run that saw them cut the Pioneer edge to 63-48, which forced a Marietta timeout four minutes into the half.

Out of the break, the team swapped buckets, and the Pioneers maintained a 78-62 edge, with nine minutes to play in the game. Later in the half, Marietta out the game away with a 12-2 run that saw their lead swell to 94-67 with just over five minutes to play in the game. The run was sparked by five points from Isaly, and capped by a three from Hall.

The Pioneers reached the century mark for the third time this season late in the game. Marietta reached 100 points on a three from Karson Synder. A Sahmi Willoughby dunk and a layup from Bryan Washington capped the Pioneer scoring. Marietta won the game, 105-74.

The Pioneers were led by Kreeger as he had 16 points and nine rebounds in the game. Isaly added 15 points, and tied a career high in assists with five. Hall pitched in with 13 points, on 3-of-5 shooting from behind the arc.

James and Kyle Matoszkia came off the bench to chip in with 12 and 10 points, respectively. Hoyng added seven points and seven rebounds. The seven boards give him 500 for his career.

Jeffrey Mansfield led Wilmington with 19 points and six rebounds. DaeShawn Jackson added 18 points, while Abdul Kanu finished with 10 points.

Marietta will return to the court Wednesday (Feb. 19) when they travel to take on rival Muskingum University. Tip off in New Concord is scheduled for 7 p.m.
