Oneonta Men Pull Away in Second Half to Defeat Cortland, 92-71

ONEONTA, N.Y. – Dylan Trombley made seven 3-pointers and finished with 30 points as Oneonta defeated visiting Cortland, 92-71, in SUNYAC men's basketball action.
 
Trombley led five double-figure scorers for Oneonta, which improved to 15-5 overall and 11-2 in the SUNYAC. He made 10-of-16 field goals, including 7-of-12 from the arc. Harrison Deegan scored 21 points and registered six assists and six rebounds. Andres Rivera rang up 15 points and 16 rebounds, while Kevin Mackin and Carson Jacobs scored 10 points apiece.
 
Austin Grunder (Trumansburg/Charles O. Dickerson) led Cortland (13-7, 7-6 SUNYAC) with 26 points, 13 rebounds and three assists. He was 10-for-19 from the field and 6-of-7 from the foul line. Eric Edwards (Binghamton) made 9-of-12 shots and finished with 18 points and six rebounds. Ryan Schmadel (Oriskany) scored 10 points and Brendan Fitzpatrick (Plainview/Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK) amassed nine points and seven rebounds.
 
Cortland trailed by just two points, 53-51, on a Grunder layup with 12:47 left. Neither team scored for more than two minutes until Trombley hit 3-pointers at the 10:39 and 10:08 marks to push Oneonta's lead to eight.
 
Cortland was still as close as seven at 70-63 when Edwards hit a layup with 6:02 remaining. Oneonta, however, hit three treys over the next two and a half minutes – one by Trombley and two by Mackin – to take a 16-point lead at the 3:47 mark and put the game out of reach.
 
Oneonta shot 50 percent overall and 45 percent (13-for-29) from the 3-point arc, as well as 9-for-10 from the foul line. Cortland shot a respectable 43 percent from the field, but suffered through its worst 3-point shooting game of the season at 12 percent (3-for-26).
 
Cortland will host Potsdam on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
