Hamburg, N.Y. – Senior Hunter Martineau tallies his second triple double of the season with 14 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists to lift the Hawks to a 70-68 AMCC victory over Mount Aloysius.

THE BASICS

  • Final Score: Hilbert 70 Mount Aloysius 68
  • Location: Hafner Recreation Center, Hilbert College 1pm
  • Records: Hilbert 14-7 (10-6 AMCC) | Mount Aloysius 11-10 (8-8 AMCC)

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Hawks looked to seniors Alex Karamanos and Hunter Martineau to get the offense started early, as the two seniors guards accounted the first 14 points for the royal and white to help build a 14-6 lead exactly six and a half minutes into the game.
  • Aloysius answered back using the three-ball as they hit three threes over a span of three minutes to cut the deficit to 25-20 with 6:35 remaining in the opening half.
  • With the Hawks up 27-22, Aloysius ramped up the energy on both ends of the court while using an inside out attack to spark an 11-0 run over the next four minutes to take a 33-27 lead with just over a minute to play in the half.
  • Both teams played to a scoreless final minute of action to go into the intermission with Aloysius hanging on to a 33-27 lead.
  • Masia Phillips got the second half scoring started for the Hawks with a three-pointer, which he followed with a layup. Jon Evans added to it with a layup of his own to cut the deficit to one.
  • Lazar Jovanovich hit from three immediately following Evans basket, before Masia Phillips hit a jumper to cap off a 12-2 Hilbert run, putting the Hawks out in front 39-35 with 17:31 left to play.
  • Nate Christian answered with a pair of layups for Aloysius to tie it back up at 41 each. Christian then followed that up with a big three-point play to put the Mounties up 44-43 with exactly 13 minutes left in the game.
  • After trading the lead back and forth, Trent McErlane hit from three to put Aloysius up 49-45 with 11:34 remaining.
  • With the Mounties up six, Kyreese Fisher converted an acrobatic three-point play off of a fast break to spark a 14-2 Hawks run to give Hilbert a 59-53 lead with just under six minutes remaining in the game.
  • Jon Evans connected on a layup soon after, before Trent McErlane hit another big three for the Mounties to cut their deficit to 65-62 with 3:21 to go.
  • In the closing minutes, Carlos Palacio came up with a monster block on defense to spark a fast break layup to bring Aloysius within one point of tying up the score with just over a minute to play.
  • However, Alex Karamanos came up big on defense when the Hawks needed a big stop, as he stole an errant pass to keep the lead in place, which then led to a pair of free throws by Masia Phillips to put the Hawks up 67-64 with 31 seconds remaining in the game.
  • Kyreese Fisher followed suit by connecting on three big free throws down the stretch to ultimately lift the Hawks to the 70-68 win.
  • Masia Phillips finished with a team-high 15 points, while Hunter Martineau led the Hawks with a team-high 12 rebounds and game-high 10 assists.
  • Mount Aloysius' Nate Christian led all scorers with a game-high 21 points and a game-high 13 rebounds, while Imil Britt dished out a team-high six assists.
