How it Happened

Tom Quarry, Conner Delaney, Joey Kern and Ethan Bartlett combined for 63 points to lead the 10th-ranked Johns Hopkins men's basketball team to an 80-70 win at Dickinson Thursday night.

Trailing by 21 with 8:24 to play, Dickinson used a 15-5 run to slice the deficit to 11 at the 3:40-mark. KJ Holton, Bryce Allen and Jack Tierney did all the work for the Red Devils, accounting for all 15 points during the run. Tierney capped the run with a three to make it a 67-56 game. Bartlett answered on the other end with a bucket from downtown to push the Blue Jays' lead back to 14. Allen responded with a three of his own to spark a 9-2 run that saw Hopkins' lead cut in half with 1:54 remaining. JHU secured the win by going 8-of-10 from the free throw line in the final 57 seconds.

This one was close early as the teams traded punches in the opening eight and a half minutes. Tied at 12, a pair of Quarry technical free throws sparked a quick 6-0 run. Dickinson answered with a 12-5 run, capped by an Allen fast-break layup to put the Red Devils up 24-23 with 3:46 to go in the half.

The teams swapped scores over the ensuing 97 seconds and Dickinson led 30-27. Hopkins had the final say however, scoring six straight, on a Quarry triple and a Chid Nnake three-point play, to take a 33-30 lead into the locker room.

The Blue Jays picked up where they left off, pushing out to a 46-31 lead by the 17:00-mark of the second half. Three-pointers from Quarry and Bartlett kick-started the 13-1 run. A Ryan Devine triple and an Allen three-point play, trimmed the deficit to nine. A driving layup by Carson James ignited a 16-4 Blue Jay run that saw the lead balloon to 21 with 8:24 left. Seven different players scored for the Blue Jays during the run, which was capped by a Kern bucket from deep.
