BRIDGEWATER, Va. – Freshman Miles Mallory (Beltsville, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) grabbed nine rebounds and tallied 19 points, one of four to score in double figures, as the third-ranked Randolph-Macon men's basketball team posted an 83-69 road ODAC victory on Wednesday evening.

How it Happened:

  • Mallory hit a jumper to start the scoring one minute into the contest. The Eagles built a 9-4 lead before back-to-back three-pointers by sophomore Ian Robertson (Lewes, Del./Cape Henlopen) and senior Corey Bays (Bel Air, Md./CM Wright) gave the Yellow Jackets a 10-9 edge with 15:30 left in the first half. BC reclaimed the lead at 15-13 before Mallory had five points in a 9-0 run as R-MC took a 22-15 advantage with 10:30 remaining. The Eagles closed to within six at 28-22 before a trey by Bays sparked another 9-0 spurt as the lead grew to 15 at 37-22 with four minutes left. A triple by junior Buzz Anthony (Arnold, Md./Archbishop Spalding) gave the visitors their largest lead of 18 at 44-26 with 1:30 remaining. The Yellow Jackets would take a 46-32 advantage at intermission. Mallory paced R-MC with 11 points and seven rebounds, while Anthony added 10 points and dished out three assists. The Yellow Jackets shot 55% from the floor (18-33) and 50% beyond the arc (6-12), while holding the Eagles to 41% shooting on field goals (13-32) and 23% on three-pointers (3-13).
  • Junior David Funderburg (Greensboro, N.C./Northwest Guilford) had a layup to start the second-half scoring before BC scored twice in the paint to close within a dozen. A three-pointer by Bays and buckets by Anthony and Robertson made up a 7-2 run as R-MC took a 55-38 lead with 16 minutes remaining in the second period. A pair of layups by freshman Josh Talbert (Virginia Beach, Va./Kellam) pushed the lead back to 18 at 61-43 with 13 minutes left. Consecutive treys by Talbert gave the Yellow Jackets their first 20-point advantage at 69-49 with 10:30 remaining. A layup by Anthony made it a 22-point contest at 71-49 with 8:20 left. The Eagles used a 12-2 run to pull within 12 before a layup by Miles halted the streak and made it 75-61 with 4:10 remaining. Mallory had a dunk and senior Korey Turner (Midlothian, Va./Amelia Academy) had a layup in the final minute to make the final 83-69.

By The Numbers:

  • R-MC had four players score in double figures. Along with 19 by Mallory, Talbert had 18, Anthony added 16 and Bays knocked in 11.
  • The Yellow Jackets had a 34-31 edge on the boards. Mallory had nine, while Robertson grabbed five off the bench.
  • Anthony had six assists and five steals, while junior Terry Woods (Burlington, N.C./Burlington School) had five assists.
  • R-MC shot 57% from the floor (33-58) and 45% on treys (9-20). Mallory went 9 for 12 on field goals and Bays was 3 for 4 from beyond the arc.
  • Anthony went 2 for 2 from the free throw line to raise his free throw percentage this season to 92% (68-74). He has made his past 20 straight free throw attempts over the past five games.

For The Record

  • R-MC remains the only team without a loss in ODAC play. The Yellow Jackets are 12-0 in conference contests. All other ODAC teams have at least two league losses.
  • The Yellow Jackets have won eight straight games.
  • R-MC has won six straight and 17 of the past 19 meetings with BC.
  • Anthony has 1,043 career points, matching Rod Wood's total for 37th place in program history.
