Sewanee Men’s Basketball Outlasts Majors in SAA Action Friday Night

SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Sewanee men's basketball team overcame a 44-43 halftime deficit to defeat the Majors of Millsaps College, 98-91, in a Southern Athletic Association (SAA) contest Friday night from Juhan Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Tigers saw a deficit of 15 points, as the Majors led 24-9 at the under-12 media timeout.

-Trailing by 10, 30-20 at the under-eight media timeout, Sewanee went on a 19-8 run to claim its first lead, 39-38, with 2:35 left in the half. The Tigers saw three straight made shots from the floor, including a Jordan Warlick 3-pointer to cut the deficit to one point. On the next possession, Jack Holloway's layup gave the Tigers the lead.

-Millsaps was able to reclaim the lead, 44-43, at the halftime break.

-Tied at 57 with under 13 minutes to go, the Tigers reclaimed the lead and they would not give it up the rest of the game. Sewanee went on a 10-0 run to lead, 67-57, with 10 minutes left in regulation.

-The Majors were able to cut the deficit to four points, 84-80, and the under-four media timeout, but Sewanee prevailed with back-to-back field goals by Joey Knox to seal the victory.

SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Joey Knox led the Tigers with 22 points on 9-of-17 shooting, adding six rebounds and three assists.

-Jordan Warlick dropped 4-of-8 from downtown and 6-of-13 from the floor to finish with 21 points.

-Michael Barry, who was 14-of-18 from the charity stripe in 20 games this season, knocked down 11-of-11 from the line Friday night, finished with 13 points.

-Jonny Crumly totaled 12 points off the bench with five rebounds and four dimes, while Mackie Garwood added 11 points.

MILLSAPS KEY STATISTICS
-Justin Van Pelt totaled 13 points and 11 rebounds for the double-double.

-Ryan McLaurin led the Majors with 18 points on 7-of-14 shooting.

UP NEXT
Sewanee is back in action Sunday to conclude the home portion of the regular season schedule with Birmingham-Southern. Tip is scheduled for 3 p.m. inside Juhan Gymnasium. Prior to the men's game, the program will recognize its six seniors.
