BW Men's Basketball Falls to No. 6 Marietta

MARIETTA, Ohio – In an Ohio Athletic Conference contest, the Baldwin Wallace University men's basketball team fell to No. 6 Marietta College, inside the Ban Johnson Arena.

BW (10-7 overall, 6-4 OAC) was led by senior two-time Academic All-OAC guard Michael Quiring (Brunswick) who recorded 18 points and dished out a game-high six assists. Freshman guard Anthony Mazzeo (North Canton/Massillon Jackson) threw in 17 off 5-of-7 from behind the arc. Senior forward Alex Nahra (Mayfield) pitched in 12 off 4-of-7 shooting, and added six rebounds. Senior forward Drew Sova (Chagrin Falls/Kenston) contributed with nine and also grabbed a game-high nine rebounds.

Marietta (15-2 overall, 9-1 OAC) was led by junior forward Tim Kreeger as he had a game-high 20 points. Junior guard Jason Ellis poured in 16 and sophomore guard Lukas Isaly contributed 14.

BW drops to 55-46 in the all-time series with Marietta and have lost four of the last five.

BW jumped out to a 17-7 lead to open the game, capped off with a three from senior forward Tyler Colombo (Strasburg/Tuscarawas Central Catholic). Marietta battled back to take a 25-24 advantage at 5:42 with a 17-8 run. Sova sank two free-throws to give the Yellow Jackets a 26-25 lead at 5:17. The Pioneers tied the game up at 31 apiece with a 6-5 spurt. BW closed the half on an 11-4 run and headed into halftime with a 42-35 lead.

Marietta started the half with a 20-8 run to take a 55-50 lead with 12:58 left in the second half. The Yellow Jackets retaliated with a 7-0 run to take a 57-55 lead at the 9:52 mark. The Pioneers answered with a 16-5 spurt to regain a 71-62 advantage with 4:13 remaining in the second half. Both teams scored 14 points each in the final minutes as Marietta walked away with the 85-76 victory.

The Yellow Jackets host Hiedelberg University on Wednesday January 29 for the final game of January and then hit the road for an OAC contest against Muskingum University on Saturday February 1.
