Cambridge, Mass. - January 22, 2020 - The Springfield College men's basketball used a balanced attack and a stout defensive effort to best MIT, 72-60, in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest in Rockwell Cage on Wednesday evening.

The Pride, which was receiving votes in the most recent D3hoops.com National Poll, now stands at 13-3, 4-1 in conference play.  The loss dropped MIT to 9-7, 2-3.

Heath Post (Cheshire, Conn.) led four Springfield players in double figures as he delivered a 14-point, 10-rebound effort, while Noah Cummings (Epsom, N.H.) netted a career-high 12 points.  Both Collin Lindsay (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and Trey Witter (Unionville, Conn.) each scored 11 points and Jake Ross (Northampton, Mass.) contributed nine points, six boards, and six assists.  Springfield turned 21 turnovers into 22 points and shot 30-of-64 (47%), including 11-of-26 (42%) from downtown.

For MIT, Ian Hinkley led all scorers with 19 points, and Matas Masys added 15 points for an Engineer squad that shot 55% (26-47) from the floor and 57% (8-14)  from deep, but only attempted one free throw the entire game.

The Pride opened up a 24-11 advantage following back-to-back triples from Witter and Post with 10:29 remaining in the first half, only to have five-straight points from Masys capped off a 9-2 surge by the hosts to pull MIT within 26-20 with 6:27 to play.  Ross would answer with a bucket and then find Lindsay for a wing three in transition to push the cushion back to 31-20, and a Robert Baum (West Springfield, Mass.) three-pointer inside the final minute allowed the visitors to take a 39-29 lead into the halftime break.

Using a 14-6 burst in the opening 5:22 of the second half, the Pride's lead ballooned to 53-35 following a lay up by Lindsay.  MIT would get as close as 10 points at 58-48 at the 9:20 mark, but Ross answered with a trifecta to kickstart an 8-2 run as Springfield regained a 66-50 lead on a Witter triple at 6:35 and closed out the conference road win.

Springfield will wrap up its three-game road swing as it heads to Coast Guard next Saturday for an 3 pm conference meeting.
