Brooklyn Pulls Away in Second Half to Defeat Baruch (60-52)

The men's basketball team suffered their first conference loss of the season in a 60-52 defeat at Brooklyn College on Wednesday night.

The visiting Bearcats took a two-point halftime lead (25-23) and were up by as much as seven points (37-30) with under 16 minutes remaining.

The host Bulldogs battled back from the 37-30 deficit by going on a game-busting 12-2 run to lead 42-39 with 11:45 remaining.

The game stayed close with the Bearcats trailing 51-47 after a layup by Benjamin Boateng, but the Bulldogs put the game out of reach by scoring the next eight points to jump ahead 58-47 with 4:47 left en route to the home win.

Emil Purisic was tops with 12 points and five rebounds, while George Smyth, Jr. had 11 points and six rebounds. Boateng narrowly missed a double-double with nine points and 12 rebounds. Michael Richards also had nine points with six rebounds.

Jordan Wright led the home team with 17 points.

The Bearcats will look to regroup on Friday with a 7:30 p.m. (updated time) contest at Lehman College.
