WILMINGTON, Ohio - A 13-2 run to open the second half stretched No. 6 Marietta College's lead to 47-29, and the Pioneers held off a late Fightin' Quaker surge to defeat the Wilmington College men's basketball team 75-64 in an Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) game at Hermann Court on Saturday afternoon.

Marietta, which entered the game scoring 92 points per game, were held to just eight points through the first 10 minutes. Unfortunately for Wilmington, the Quakers struggled offensively from the start as well. When the Pioneers finally reached double digits, on a Jason Ellis layup at the 9:28 mark, the hosts led just 12-10.

Three minutes later, the Quakers held a 17-15 edge on two free throws from Payton Smith, but a 12-2 run gave the Pioneers a 27-19 lead. Consecutive triples from Colin Myers got Wilmington back within four points (29-25), but Tim Kreeger converted an old-fashioned, three-point play, for the final field goal of the half.

Leading 34-27 at halftime, the Pioneers started the second half strong resulting in a 19-point deficit (48-29) for the Quakers. Wilmington would make a run late and cut that deficit to eight (66-58) on a DaeShawn Jackson free throw with a little over three minutes to play, but couldn't get closer as Marietta avenged a defeat at Hermann Court last season.

Marietta finished 26-of-63 (41.3 percent) from the field compared to 20-of-58 (34.5 percent) for Wilmington. Both teams shot under 25 percent from distance and under 60 percent from the charity stripe. A total of 53 fouls were called that resulted in 34 free throw attempts for the Pioneers and 31 for the Quakers.

Jason Ellis led all scorers with 26 points to go along with five assists while Kreeger finished with a double-double on 19 points and 13 rebounds.

Myers poured in a career-high 18 points to lead Wilmington in scoring while also grabbed a career-high nine rebounds. Jackson finished with a dozen to go along with seven rebounds, three assists and two steals. Jeffery Mansfield also finished in double figures.

Wilmington (4-7, 2-2 OAC) hosts Capital University on Wednesday.
