No. 5-ranked Tommies push win streak to eight

Freshman forward Will Engels led another big bench scoring game with 17 points as No. 5-ranked St. Thomasn Men's Basketball cruised to an 88-49 road victory at Concordia-Moorhead in Saturday's MIAC action.

The Tommies (9-1 overall, 5-0 MIAC), who have won eight in a row, showed no rust coming off a 23-day break from competition. They had only five turnovers and sank 14 baskets from 3-point range, with nine different players making at least one trey. Fourteen of the 15 players dressed in uniform scored for the winners, who recorded 58 bench points.

Seniors Elijah Hannah and Tommy Anderson each sank 11 points for the Tommies, who had a 34-22 rebounding edge.

St. Thomas closed the first half on a 32-6 run to take a 40-16 halftime lead.

The Purple, who have won 15 of their last 17 road games dating back to last season, play Monday night at Hamline. They return home Wednesday night to face St. Olaf.

Bryden Urie had nine points to lead the Cobbers (2-8, 0-6).
