Sewanee Men’s Basketball Falters in Final Minutes to Hampden-Sydney

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. - The Sewanee men's basketball team wrapped up the non-conference portion of the 2019-20 schedule on Monday with a 77-64 setback to Hampden-Sydney in the final day of the H-SC Holiday Classic.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Leading 9-7 with 16 minutes left in the opening half, the Tigers went on a 14-2 run to push the lead to 23-9, a 14-point lead, with under 10 minutes left in the first half.

-H-SC attempted a rally, using a 20-13 run the rest of the half, but it was Sewanee leading, 36-29, after 20 minutes of play.

-The home team was able to cut the deficit to one point, 43-41, with 15:19 left in regulation after a three-point play, but the Tigers maintained the lead with a triple from Michael Barry.

-Hampden-Sydney did not go away, however, as they claimed its first lead of the game with 10:12 left in the game and did not relinquish it.

-After Adrian Thomas made a jumper with 12 minutes left to make a 53-50 score in favor of Sewanee, H-SC put the contest away on a 13-3 run in about a six-minute span.

SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Joey Knox led the Tigers with 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting. Additionally, the junior added seven boards, four on the offensive side of the ball.

-Adrian Thomas added 11 points and grabbed eight rebounds.

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY KEY STATISTICS
-Jake Hahn posted a double-double with 23 points and 12 rebounds, adding four assists and three steals.

-Ryan Clements added 16 points in the game.

Sewanee will step back into Southern Athletic Association (SAA) play on Friday at Millsaps.
